After their involvement in the death of a prisoner in the mental ward seven months ago, two wardens of Adiala Jail, Assistant Superintendent Riaz Khan, and former deputy superintendent Muhammad Akram were fired from their roles.
In a departmental investigation carried out under the direction of the Punjabi IG Prisons, the officers were found guilty. The investigation was started in response to the fatal event that occurred in the mentally ill inmate’s cell on February 29. Four of the seven correctional staff members who were involved in the case have now been fired.
