According to Police Scotland, at approximately 3:50 p.m. on Monday, officers were notified that two men were hurt inside Hamilton’s Burnbank Centre.
When emergency personnel arrived, a 59-year-old guy was transported by ambulance to the hospital and a 36-year-old man was declared dead at the site.
On suspicion of murder and attempted murder, a 56-year-old male has been taken into custody.
“We believe this was an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public,” stated Superintendent Richard Taylor.
Since we recognize that this may be a very distressing and concerning moment for the locals, we have strengthened the police presence in the area.
These officers are available to speak with anyone who has concerns.
While investigations continue, closures have been implemented on Whitehill Road and Purdie Street. These closures are expected to last until Tuesday around noon, with restricted access to stores.
The public is asked to stay away from the area.
