After an erupting volcano threw a cloud of scorching ash miles into the sky, many Australian airlines have canceled flights to and from Bali, a major tourist destination in Indonesia.
On the isolated island of Flores, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has remained active since a series of explosions last Monday that covered cities and villages in volcanic ash, forced tens of thousands of residents to evacuate, and killed at least ten people.
Due to the safety risk posed by the cloud of volcanic ash, Jetstar, Qantas, and Virgin Australia suspended flights between Australia and Bali from Tuesday night until Wednesday morning.
“It is currently unsafe to operate flights to and from Bali due to volcanic ash caused by the Mount Lewotobi eruption in Indonesia”.
