Nine months after being detained with her husband, former prime minister Imran Khan, in the lead-up to elections, Bushra Bibi was released from Adiala Jail on Thursday. Soon later, she arrived at her home in Bani Gala, Islamabad.
Following the submission of a Rs1 million surety bond by Bibi’s attorneys to the court, Special Judge (central) Shahrukh Arjumand granted the release orders.
Alongside opposition leader Khan, Bibi was found guilty of graft and illegal marriage in the days before up to the February elections, which he said was an attempt to disqualify him from voting.
Gohar Ali Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, told reporters, “She was kept in jail to put pressure on Imran Khan.”
