The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has drafted a draft law for the registration of madrassas in the provinces following the president’s promulgation of the Societies Registration (Amendment) Act, 2024 last month.
After the madrassas’ registration law passed both houses of parliament last month, the federal government alerted the provinces, prompting the religio-political party to intensify efforts for legislation to register Islamic schools in the provinces.
The proposed Societies Registration Amendment Act, 2025, would allow unregistered seminaries in the provinces to be registered within six months; madrassas that are already registered with the Center would not have to reapply for registration.
Unregistered Islamic schools will register with the directorate, according to the draft law.
