A member of a House Democrat’s staff was taken into custody by the U.S. Capitol Police on Thursday morning after he allegedly attempted to enter the Cannon House Office Building with ammunition.
The 25th Congressional District in New York is represented by Representative Joe Morelle, whose office informed WROC that it is “fully committed to cooperating with the investigation.”
“A House employee entered the Cannon House Office Building at around 8:45 a.m. and went through security with his bag. In a statement, Capitol Police told News that USCP officers had seen what looked like ammunition on the x-ray screen.
“Officers discovered eleven rounds of ammo and four ammunition magazines after manually searching the backpack. The document went on to say, “The staffer told the officers that he forgot the ammunition was in the bag.”
