After five years, North Korea will resume accepting tourists.

Tour operators report that North Korea will reopen one city to international visitors in December following nearly five years of border closures owing to the COVID epidemic.

The hilly northern city of Samjiyon may soon be open to tourists, according to at least two companies based in China.
withdrawn When the pandemic first began in early 2020, North Korea walled itself off and didn’t begin to ease sanctions until the middle of the previous year.
Due to the country’s nuclear program, international sanctions exacerbated food shortages, which were caused by the border restrictions that also stopped imports of necessities.
“So far just Samjiyon has been officially confirmed but we think that Pyongyang and other places will open too!!!” KTG Tours of Shenyang wrote it.

Visitors could “potentially” travel to other regions of North Korea in December, according to Beijing’s Koryo Tour.
“Having waited for over four years to make this announcement, Koryo Tours is very excited for the opening of North Korean tourism once again,” it stated on its website on Wednesday.
South Korean tourists were not permitted to participate in the visits, according to Koryo Tours, which provided information about North Korean tourism policies. Nonetheless, US citizens are prohibited from visiting North Korea.
