ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has requested reserved seats from the Supreme Court, and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has again asked the court to get advice on whether to implement the modified Election Act 2017 or its ruling on this issue.
The National Assembly Speaker, Ayaz Sadiq, wrote a letter claiming that changes were made to the Election Act following the ruling of the highest court allowing the opposition party to run for the reserved seats, which the top electoral authority cited in its request on Thursday.
It is important to note that Speaker Sadiq informed the ECP in his letter that the July 12 verdict of the supreme court was “incapable of implementation” un light of the Election Act of 2017 modifications.
The ECP asked the SC for guidance on whether to give the revised Election first priority.
