ISLAMABAD Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz demanded that the Ramazan Sugar Mills reference be retransferred to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) following PTI founder Imran Khan’s request for relief under recently restored amendments to the National Accountability Ordinance 1999 from the Supreme Court.
On September 6, the supreme court granted intra-court challenges against the September 15, 2023, majority ruling that invalidated the National Accountability Ordinance changes.
Noting that Imran was unable to establish the unconstitutionality of the NAB changes, the highest court granted the intra-court challenges brought up by the federal and provincial governments.
The father-son pair’s attorneys contended during today’s hearing that the accountability court lacked authority to proceed and that the referral against their clients is “inadmissible” in light of the Supreme Court’s decision.
