The 76-year-old actress, who is leading lawyer Madeline “Matty” Matlock in the revival of “Matlock,” talked about how she managed to handle the rigorous filming schedule that comes with being the star of a broadcast TV program in a recent interview with Variety.
“It’s helped me tremendously that, over the last six or seven years, I’ve lost 100 pounds,” the “American Horror Story” alum added.
According to Bates’ statement to Variety, she hit her peak weight in 2011 while playing the title character of attorney Harriet “Harry” Korn on the NBC legal comedy drama series “Harry’s Law.”
Every chance I got, I had to sit down,” Bates recounted. “I had trouble walking. I feel bad for allowing myself to become so unfit, but I am so much more energetic today.”
I feel fantastic,” she said to the publication. “I’ve experienced significant weight loss, which has greatly improved my problems. I still have to wear compression sleeves or wear protective gear to avoid cuts and bug bites, as these might induce sepsis.”
Lymphedema, according to the Mayo Clinic, is swelling that develops in the arms and legs as a result of a lymphatic system obstruction.
