In the midst of an ongoing fight over reserved seats, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), like the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has also voiced dread of a constitutional breakdown in the nation.
Senior PTI politician Hamid Khan claimed on Thursday on the Geo News program “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath” that the current government’s unlawful actions were pushing the nation closer to a constitutional collapse.
Hamid stated that if the rulings of the highest court were not followed, the entire constitutional system would come to an end, pointing to the PML-N government’s resistance to the Supreme Court’s decision permitting the PTI to seek reserved seats in the legislature.
However, in the same broadcast, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif also voiced concerns about the nation’s potential for a “constitutional meltdown.”\
Without providing any details, he stated, “I don’t have any information [but] this is just my gut feeling that constitutional breakdown is about to happen.. sooner or later [but] it is going to happen.”
The PML-N leader made it clear that he was not talking about the potential imposition of martial law in the nation. He insisted, “Political problems should have political solutions.”
