After utilizing extraordinary powers to ram through a social security budget package without a vote by members of parliament, French Prime Minister Michel Barnier is facing a vote of no confidence in his minority administration.
The far-right National Rally (RN) led by Marine Le Pen and the radical left France Unbowed (LFI) opposition party sparked the vote this afternoon, which is unlikely to be won by the government.
It’s probably going to happen on Wednesday.
Barnier obviously did not believe he would be able to pass his budget package, even with last-minute concessions.
After early elections in July, the New Popular Front—a coalition of various left-wing parties—took the lead over the far right and Macron’s followers.
The decision to deviate by Macron infuriated the coalition.
