On Wednesday, an Australian police officer was convicted guilty of the manslaughter of a 95-year-old woman who was tasered during a conflict in a nursing home and died as a result of her injuries.
In May 2023, senior constable Kristian White was called to the nursing home when dementia-stricken Clare Nowland began to slowly wander the hallways while brandishing a steak knife.
The Supreme Court of New South Wales heard that White yelled “bugger it” and fired his stun gun after repeatedly requesting that an irate Nowland drop the knife.
After falling backwards and hitting her head, the great-grandmother suffered a brain bleed and passed away in the hospital a week later.
Police later referred to Nowland as “frail” because she apparently weighed less than 50 kilograms at the time.
