President of Broadcasting Scott Taunton made the announcement to the workforce on Tuesday, stating that it would take place “from early summer”.
It happened a few weeks after TV host Piers Morgan declared he was leaving to concentrate on his YouTube channel.
The station had aired his show, Piers Morgan Uncensored, at 8 p.m., but the ratings had been dismal.
Daily, set TV schedules, according to the presenter, had become “an increasingly unnecessary straitjacket”.
“It is obvious to all of us that, for the majority of people, news consumption is shifting online,” Mr. Taunton stated in a staff briefing on the tv show move that News was able to view.
