The Artist Rights Alliance, an advocacy group, gathered the signatures of about 200 artists, among them J Balvin and Sheryl Crow, to sign an open letter urging AI developers, tech companies, and digital music services to “cease the use of AI to infringe upon and devalue the rights of human artists.”
Although AI has “enormous potential” to boost human creativity in a way that might produce new and interesting experiences for fans, the alliance—which is run by veterans of the industry—stated in the letter that it should be utilized properly.
The breach of artists’ privacy, the unauthorized use of their names, and the exploitation of their music as training data for AI models are the main issues it raises.
