At least three people have died in skirmishes with security enforcement in the valley during protests that have persisted despite the announcement of a sizable subsidy package for the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
The Awami Action Committee (AAC) called for protests against high electricity rates and inflation, and on Monday, they carried on for a fourth day in AJK, even though the federal and state administrations agreed to accept “all demands” made by the demonstrators.
Following the announcement of a Rs23 billion subsidy package for the AJK earlier today by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Premier Chaudhry Anwarul Haq of the area stated that the basic necessities of affordable roti [bread] and power could not be denied.
