After sending a sharp resignation letter to Sir Keir Starmer on Saturday, the Canterbury MP informed the media that she is “desperately sorry” to the people in her constituency who supported Labour.
“So ashamed of what you and your inner circle have done to tarnish and humiliate our once proud party,” she wrote in her resignation letter to the prime minister.
During her interview with Laura Kuenssberg of the news, Ms. Duffield was questioned about whether she believed Sir Keir “has a problem with women.”
She retorted, “I fear that I do. I’ve personally gone through that.”
“The young men who surround” Sir Keir are referred to as “the lads” by the now-independent MP and other female Labour backbenchers.
The lads’ leadership is evident, she continued.
The same people who are briefing against me in the tabloids together with other well-known female MPs now have their Downing Street passes.
In particular, she called Sir Keir’s handling of Stoke Newington and Hackney North MP Diane Abbott following her lengthy suspension “deeply shameful” in her resignation letter.
Labour minister Pat McFadden responded to Ms. Duffield’s departure on News by saying he “regrets” her choice but that it’s likely no secret that she’s been unhappy for some time.
