The 93-year-old actor, who played Capt. James T. Kirk in the original “Star Trek” TV series from 1966 to 1969 and again in several motion pictures, disclosed in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight that he has only actually seen a “few” of his work’s episodes and has “never seen” any of the spinoffs.
“Let me tell you something that not even the experts know. I’ve never watched another “Star Trek,” and I’ve watched as few as possible of the ones from the show I was on,” he declared. “I’ve never seen anyone else, and I don’t like looking at myself. It’s fantastic, and I adore it. I simply don’t, you know.
I watch sports, news, documentaries, things that were, and things that were manufactured, but for some reason, I don’t watch television,” he continued. “I’ve been urged to watch certain shows by my family, ‘You’ll love this,’ and I just never get around to it.”
Speaking to The Canadian Press in May to promote his documentary “You Can Call Me Bill,” Shatner said it would be “an intriguing idea” to bring Captain Kirk back in the modern era.
