The White House has defended President Joe Biden’s decision to pardon his son Hunter, despite his repeated claims that he had no intention of doing so.
According to the press secretary, Biden pardoned his son to protect him from possible persecution by the outgoing president’s political rivals. The son was scheduled to be sentenced later this month in two federal cases.
Any possible federal offenses that 54-year-old Hunter might have committed over a ten-year period are covered by the broad pardon.
Donald Trump, the president-elect, has denounced the action as “an abuse and miscarriage of justice” according to Republicans.
Biden “wrestled” over the issue during the weekend when the family was on the Massachusetts island of Nantucket for Thanksgiving, according to press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who spoke to reporters on Monday.
