The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) temporarily halted the procurement process to examine the proposal through a government agency after the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue objected to the acquisition of 1,010 new cars.
To win the Senate body’s trust, FBR Chairman Rashid Langrial said in a statement on Thursday that the idea would be brought by the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) for review before car purchases.
Citing concerns regarding procurement transparency, the Senate Standing Committee on Finance last week ordered the FBR to halt its proposal to buy new vehicles for operational purposes at an estimated cost of Rs6 billion.
