Amy Scott stopped the assailant, who the police have now named as Joel Cauchi, on her own when he was wandering the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center after stabbing many people.
Inspector Scott followed Cauchi, eventually confronting him on the building’s fifth floor. He was coming at her with the blade when she shot him.
The 40-year-old man was not able to be revived despite the cop performing CPR on him until the paramedics came.
“Even [after she shot the attacker], she immediately began applying CPR – that just shows you the dedication of the person and her incredible courage,” Waverley Mayor Paula Masselos said to News.
