It said that the aircraft of the Malawi Defense Force “went off the radar” after it departed the nation’s capital, Lilongwe, on Monday morning.
When aviation authorities were unable to get in touch with the aircraft, the president issued an order for a search and rescue mission.
It was scheduled to touch down shortly after 10:00 local time (11:00 BST) at Mzuzu International Airport in the north of the nation.
Mary, the wife of Mr. Chilima, and many representatives of the vice president’s United Transformation Movement (UTM) party are among the other passengers on the aircraft.
Following his notification of the occurrence by the commander of the Defense Force, President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi canceled his planned trip to the Bahamas.

The reason behind the aircraft’s disappearance is still unknown, General Valentino Phiri told Mr. Chakwera. Moses Kunkuyu, Malawi’s Minister of Information, told reporters that the search for the aircraft is “intensive.”
