A man in Austria discovered something extraordinary while repairing his wine cellar. It wasn’t classic red or white, but rather the remains of prehistoric mammoths.
The discovery has been described as an “archaeological sensation” by researchers from the Austrian Archaeological Institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW).
Andreas Pernerstorfer, a winemaker, discovered a number of massive bones buried underground in his wine cellar in the village of Gobelsburg, in the Krems area, west of Vienna.
He submitted his discovery to the authorities, who identified it as the remains of at least three Stone Age mammoths.
Mr Pernerstorfer informed the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) that he made the discovery while refurbishing his wine cellar.
