The 36-year-old Laura-Jane Seaman was pleading for her life following the birth of her fifth child.
Days before Christmas in 2022, she passed away.
Her death was found to be “avoidable” and “contributed to by neglect” during her stay at Essex’s Broomfield Hospital, according to the results of an inquest.
Sarah, the mother of Ms. Seaman, recalls how easy the labor had been and how good she appeared in the hours that followed. She was eager to leave the hospital after being allowed to breastfeed her new baby boy.
“We were going to have a McDonald’s breakfast – that’s what she did after the birth of every baby,” Sarah stated to News.
But all of a sudden, Ms. Seaman began to feel ill: “She was calm at times, but quite upset at others.” Just continued insisting, ‘I’m not correct. I seem to be babbling.”
Despite being known to be at high risk of post-partum hemorrhage, the mother of five who had an internal bleed did not have her case accelerated.
Rather, she received a cookie and dehydration treatment. Her observations were not recorded on the chart that would have identified numerous warning flags; instead, they were scrawled on a cardiotocography printout.
