Pakistan has a long history of creating musical legends, like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Mehdi Hassan, Ahmed Rushdi, and Noor Jehan. It appears that the younger generation is following in their footsteps, leaving their stamp on the rapidly evolving music business.
One such up-and-coming musician is Annural Khalid, who was designated Pakistan’s first female RADAR Artist for the year 2024 by the well-known music streaming service Spotify. The singer’s musical career is explored in the platform’s mini-documentary.
As a component of Spotify’s global emerging artist program, RADAR Pakistan seeks to discover and develop young, talented musicians from all around Pakistan and gives them a platform to reach a global audience.
Khalid’s achievement coincides with the release of her debut album, which features her distinctive fusion of R&B and mellow pop.
“Spotify RADAR is really important to me. The singer expressed her happiness at the news, saying, “I feel like I get to share my story with an even bigger audience and it feels so good to know that people can associate who I really am as a person with the perception they have of me as an artist.”
“I think that’s something I have been trying to do for a while and with RADAR […] I get insights on what my listeners are vibing with, what sound resonates more with people, just helps me know my audience better,” she said.
Khalid’s talent and commitment are evident in this growth, since she was previously designated Spotify’s EQUAL Pakistan Ambassador in July 2023.
The 2020-born singer has been successful in creating hits including Kehdena, Mujhe Leh Chal, Dil de Bol, Pretty Lies, and Sohneya Ve.
