The computer giant Apple has been accused of using conflict minerals by the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has filed criminal accusations against its companies in France and Belgium.
Attorneys representing the Congolese government have claimed that Apple is involved in crimes carried out by armed groups that own some of the mines in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Apple stated in its 2023 evaluation of the matter that it keeps an eye on its supply chain, attempts to reduce hazards, and enhances methods for locating the minerals’ origin.
The French and Belgian authorities will now consider if there is sufficient evidence to pursue the case.
The DR Congo’s attorneys discussed the contamination of Apple’s supply chain in a statement.
