According to the New York Post, Apple appears to have discreetly withdrawn the 3.5mm Lightning to Headphone Jack Adapter, a once-essential item for iPhone owners.
Both the US and UK Apple websites have been out of stock on this item for a while.
Through the use of the adaptor, consumers were able to connect their iPhones—which lacked a headphone jack—to a range of gadgets, including speakers, wired headphones, automotive audio systems, and in-flight entertainment systems.
It looks like this once-popular attachment might be permanently abandoned as Apple switches from its proprietary Lightning port to USB-C.
Launched in 2016 along with the iPhone 7, the 3.5mm Lightning to Headphone Jack Adapter represented Apple’s contentious decision to remove the conventional headphone jack from its products.
