Following much conjecture, the Academy has formally announced that Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who are both from Wicked, will perform at the 97th Academy Awards.
Rumors that the pair will perform at the esteemed event were confirmed by the Academy’s Instagram post.
The excitement surrounding their presence is increased by the fact that specifics of their musical performance are yet unknown.
For their performances as Elphaba and Glinda in the film version of the Tony-winning Broadway musical, Erivo and Grande have both received Oscar nominations.
Gregory Maguire’s 1995 book Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, which reimagines the beginnings of The Wizard of Oz’s most notorious characters, served as the inspiration for the movie.
