Dr. Arif Alvi, a senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and a former president, declared on Tuesday that his party would have talks with the person who actually has the authority to make decisions.
In response to a query concerning the perception that PTI founder Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated, is against having talks with his political rivals in order to restore stability to the nation, he made this statement.
The announcement followed repeated requests from the current administration for the troubled Imran Khan-founded party to engage in negotiations in order to find a way to resolve the political impasse; thus far, the previous ruling party has not responded definitively.
Alvi added, “I have lost all hope as accountability is impossible in Pakistan,” during a press conference in Lahore.
In the diplomatic cable case, he hailed the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) decision, saying that “the case was lodged for no reason.” Dr. Alvi, a previous head of state, argued that a prime minister’s decision to inform the country about a cipher or not was their own.
The “entire elite class is opposing the accountability or investigation” into the delicate topics, the former president criticized. He continued, “Accountability is impossible in our country, so I have lost all hope.”
From the time of [previous military dictator] Ayub Khan till now, we have not prioritized accountability.
