A joint operation by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) and Dutch and Belgian police has resulted in the arrest of a man accused of being a major supplier of small boat equipment to people smugglers in Amsterdam.
The guy is believed to have supplied engines and boats to smugglers in northern France, according to the NCA.
The 44-year-old Turkish national will be extradited to Belgium to face allegations of human smuggling after being detained at Schiphol Airport on Wednesday.
In one of the NCA’s “most significant investigations into organized immigration crime,” Rob Jones, director general for operations, described the arrest as a turning point.
