The Russian dancer was taken into custody in California early on Thursday morning. She and her famous partner Kara Tointon won the competition in 2010.
Napa County Sheriff’s Officer Henry Wofford informed News that Chigvintsev was taken into custody following police response to a domestic abuse report in the town of Yountville just after 10 a.m. local time (7 p.m. GMT).
After being brought to the Napa County Department of Correction, the 42-year-old dancer was detained and given a $25,000 (£19,000) bond.
Although specifics regarding possible injuries were not available, Mr. Wofford stated that felony domestic abuse arrests occur when injuries are evident or observable.
After being paired with former EastEnders actress Tointon during season eight in 2010, the Russian dancer joined Strictly, and their connection developed into a long-lasting real-life partnership.
The 42-year-old dancer previously advanced to the show’s semifinals in 2011 alongside Holly Valance, and in the 2012 season, he was paired with TV veteran Fern Britton.
In 2013, he was paired with Natalie Gumede, a star of Coronation Street, and they finished the competition as runners-up.
