The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, Mr. Kejriwal, was detained on Thursday in relation to accusations of corruption involving the city’s alcohol sales regulations.
Kejriwal has refuted any misconduct. On Friday, he is scheduled to appear in court.
Leaders of the opposition have claimed that his detention was made for political purposes.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has denied the charge, saying it is merely fighting corruption.
A few weeks prior to India’s general elections, Mr. Kejriwal is taken into custody by a financial crimes agency, which leaves the opposition severely weakened. The 27-party INDIA alliance, of which the BJP is a member, seeks to unseat the BJP.
