According to Molly Ringwald, she was “taken advantage of” in her early Hollywood career.
Ringwald, 56, said that although while she didn’t “go out to clubs” as a teenager, she nevertheless ended up in “questionable situations.”
“Because I was so young, I never felt like I was a part of a community when I was in Hollywood,” Ringwald stated in a podcast interview with Marc Maron. “I didn’t enjoy frequenting nightclubs. I think I’ve become more social since then. Simply put, I was too young.”
“Oh, it seems like I was taken advantage of,” the “Pretty in Pink” actress said. “You can’t be a young actress in Hollywood and not have predators around.”
When Ringwald found herself in “dubious situations,” she “figured out a way to protect” herself thanks to her “incredible survival instinct and pretty big superego.”
To avoid the same fate, the actress clarified that she attempted to “convince” her daughter not to pursue a career in acting.
“Yes, it can be terrifying,” she admitted. “And even though I tried everything to talk my 20-year-old daughter into doing something else, she is entering the same field of work. It’s also difficult.”
