When she arrived in China, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock was taken aback because no one was waiting for her at the airport on Monday. As a result, she left with her entourage.
On social media, a video of her arrival and facial expression went viral. Neither party has released any public statements regarding the development as of yet.
According to media accounts, Baerbock was received at the Chinese airport by security personnel exclusively; no Chinese leaders were there.
The move follows Baerbock’s September 14 interview with US cable network Fox News in which he called Chinese President Xi Jinping a “dictator.”
