Thiago, the son of Gelvana Rodrigues, died when poisonous muck washed into their house when he was seven years old.
On November 5, 2015, the Mariana dam collapsed in Minas Gerais, Brazil, killing 19 people, including him.
It is regarded as Brazil’s worst environmental catastrophe ever.
Samarco, a joint venture between mining behemoths Vale and BHP, owned the dam.
Waste from the mining of iron ore was stored there. Tens of millions of cubic meters of muck and poisonous garbage were released when it exploded.
This was contaminated and hundreds of homes were destroyed by the sludge that washed into communities.
