According to his family, Guinness World Records announced on Tuesday that British man John Tinniswood, the oldest man in the world, has passed away at the age of 112 at the care facility where he resided in Southport, northwest England.
Tinniswood passed away on Monday. He was born in Liverpool on August 26, 1912.
When Venezuelan Juan Vicente Perez, 114, passed away in April, he became the oldest man in the world.
In a statement, the family thanked “all those who cared for him over the years” and said, “His last day was surrounded by music and love.”
Tinniswood, who lived through both World Wars and was born the year the Titanic crashed, told Guinness World Records that “pure luck” was the key to his longevity.
“You can’t choose between living a long or short life.”
