SYDNEY: As collectors fought for a unique piece of cricket history, a “baggy green” Test cap that was worn by Australian great Don Bradman brought $250,000 at auction on Tuesday.
About 80 years old, the ragged garment had a torn peak, was sun-faded, and had “insect damage” on it.
According to auction house Bonhams, Bradman wore the headgear during his final Test series at home, India’s 1947–48 tour of Australia.
A rush of bidding drove the price from a starting point of $160,000 to a winning offer of $250,000 (Aus$390,000) during a 10-minute auction.
After adding “buyer’s premium” fees, the total came to $310,000.
