LONDON: Maryam Riaz Wattoo, the sister of former first lady Bushra Imran Khan, has alleged that her sister’s life is in danger at Bani Gala, where she is under house arrest.
Bushra, the wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, was placed under house arrest at her husband’s Islamabad mansion after being convicted on graft charges.
Khan and his wife were sentenced to 14 years in prison in a case involving claims that the former prime minister undervalued gifts from a state repository and profited from selling them while in power.
Wattoo told Geo News that she is particularly concerned about her sister’s safety since “Bushra has been treated badly by the jail authorities”.
She stated that the jail superintendent, Adiala, is responsible for Bushra’s protection, but “evidence” reveals that the jail authorities are failing in their duties.
Wattoo, Bushra’s younger sister and an educationist based in Dubai, said her sister’s daughter met her after more than ten days and informed her that Bushra was given “some weird, very strong-tasting food six days ago which has burnt her throat and stomach completely such that since the last six days she has not been able to eat anything, has gone very weak, and is not well”.
She reported that the officer who brought her the food that day has been reassigned subsequently.
Wattoo stated that no doctor was called in on time to evaluate her, and that the delay would diminish the impact of what was given to her sister.
Wattoo expressed concern about her sister in a post on X.
She stated, “No doctor has been asked in for consultation. Mrs. Bushra Imran Khan was in excellent health when she presented herself for arrest. She has no illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, or anything else.”
