Ahead of Easter weekend, on Thursday, at a Royal Maundy ceremony in Worcester Cathedral, the pre-recorded audio will be played in his absence.
The King will discuss how Jesus provided a “model of how we should serve and care for each other” and how, as a country, “we need and benefit greatly from those who extend the hand of friendship to us, especially in a time of need.” The King made his cancer diagnosis public in February.
In addition, the 75-year-old, who took the throne 18 months ago, will reiterate his Coronation vow “not to be served but to serve”.
The King did not mention his daughter-in-law’s or his own health specifically, but his remarks will be understood as a commentary on the way the country has responded to his and Kate’s struggles while they undergo cancer treatment.
