Rafa Nadal of Spain, the 22-time Grand Slam singles champion, said on Thursday that he was ending his professional tennis career. The decision will take effect following the Davis Cup final.
“These past two years in particular have been quite challenging,” the 38-year-old, who has a record 14 French Open victories, stated in a video.
“I am thrilled to be playing for my nation in the Davis Cup, which will be my final tournament. It completes the cycle because the 2004 Sevilla final was one of my first delights.
The dates of the Davis Cup knockout phase are November 19–24.
Due to injury, Rafael Nadal was unable to participate in the 2023 French Open and lost to German player Alexander Zverev in the opening round.
