INDONESIA: In the Asia Open Kyurogi Taekwondo Championship, Pakistan’s Shahzaib Khan defeated Reymundo Calamba III of the Philippines to win the gold medal in the -54 kilogramme weight class.
Calamba scored eleven points while Shahzaib scored six in the opening round.
Shahzaib won the second round with a commanding performance, winning 10-3, and the third round with an even bigger victory, 18-0, to secure Pakistan’s first gold medal in the event.
Shahzaib had earlier advanced to the championship match by winning the semi-final against Aziz Hidayat Tomakaka of Indonesia 12-14, 16-14, and 22-0.
Beibarys Kablan of Kazakhstan defeated Pakistan’s Hamza Saeed by a score of 5-1 and 4-4 points to win the gold medal in the +87kg weight category final.
