ISLAMABAD According to The News on Wednesday, Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah’s adviser on political affairs stated that changes to the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) will help address the problem of missing persons in addition to combating terrorism.
According to Sanaullah, who spoke to the journal, allowing law enforcement agencies (LEAs) to detain suspected terrorists for a maximum of three months will legally permit both civil and military law enforcement authorities to make an arrest.
The PM’s adviser stated that the problem of missing persons emerges in the lack of such an authority.
The politician’s comments follow the incumbent government’s submission of the Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Bill 2024 to the National Assembly last week, which calls for the replacement of Anti-Terrorist Act section 11EEE.
