Mohsin Naqvi, the federal interior minister, has stated that Pakistan will not accept any alternative legal system and will deny national identity cards to anyone who associates with the outlawed Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM).
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Naqvi claimed that the PTM had denigrated law enforcement and governmental institutions. He stressed that he would not allow the creation of parallel courts, but he would not oppose to traditional Jirgas.
Reiterating that the PTM had been outlawed by the government, Naqvi claimed that gathering thousands of people does not make for a genuine Jirga.
He made it clear that while the administration is open to talking with people who are fighting for their rights, ID cards of those who meet with the PTM will be blocked.
