In a meeting with US Ambassador Donald Blome on Thursday, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb reiterated the government’s commitment to enacting substantial reforms in the areas of energy, taxes, and state-owned enterprises.
Aurangzeb emphasized that by correcting tax leakages and bringing previously untaxed sectors into the tax system, Pakistan’s tax-to-GDP ratio should rise to 13.5% during the course of the following three years.
Ambassador Blome reaffirmed US support for bolstering bilateral collaboration while applauding the government’s efforts to improve macroeconomic stability.
He emphasized the continued backing of technical and development programs and the emphasis on encouraging superior US investments in Pakistan.
In its annual report on the economy, the State Bank of Pakistan stated earlier in the day that maintaining macroeconomic stability in Pakistan is hampered by structural barriers.
