As emergency personnel attempt to limit the fire, residents in an Australian district devastated by bushfires were granted two hours on Tuesday to return home and gather their valuables before Christmas.
Authorities warn that circumstances in the days ahead might be the worse since Australia’s most destructive fire season on record, the so-called “Black Summer” of 2019–20, prompting the evacuation of communities surrounding Victoria’s Grampians.
Over 41,000 hectares (101,000 acres) of land have already been burned by the bushfires in the last week, yet no one has been killed or any property has been damaged.
A slew of fire warnings have also been issued nationwide due to the extreme temperatures predicted for Boxing Day.
