ISLAMABAD: In response to demonstrations against power outages that rocked numerous cities and districts throughout the province, Federal Energy Minister Awais Leghari on Wednesday asked Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for assistance in addressing gatecrash events at various grid stations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Regarding the participation of parliamentarians in these raids, the energy minister wrote in a letter to Mohsin Naqvi that “responsible people are leading these protests.”
According to a report by the chief executive officer of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO), the minister said in his letter that these instances are occurring in Mardan, Charsadda, Tank, Bannu, and Peshawar as a result of power shortages.
The letter stated that the safety of grid stations and employees is at jeopardy and that “provincial assembly members and others gave illegal orders to grid station staff regarding power restoration.”
After KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur broke into a grid station in Dera Ismail Khan and forcibly restored the power supply, declaring his “very own” load-shedding scheme, Leghari sought assistance from the interior ministry.
When the province’s disagreement over electrical load-shedding escalated, the chief minister raided the site.
No location will experience load shedding for more than 12 hours. In order to make sure that the load-shedding schedule is being followed, assembly members should visit the grid stations in their respective regions, CM Gandapur advised, cautioning the federal government about the issue.
