In a fiery speech on the National Assembly floor, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary-General Omar Ayub refuted claims that his party was involved in the violent protests on May 9 and reiterated the call for a judicial investigation into the riots that erupted nearly everywhere in the nation after former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s arrest last year.
Ayub, who is also the head of the opposition in the lower house of parliament, stated during his speech to the National Assembly on Monday that the nation suffered greatly as a result of the 2007 assassination of former prime minister Benzair Bhutto.
“To be clear, Benazir was slain as a result of a bomb attack, and the turmoil that erupted in the nation caused damages of $2 billion,”
He claimed that in the violent riots that followed the death of the former prime minister in Rawalpindi on December 27, 2007, numerous trains, locomotives, and railway stations were also damaged.
Ayub claimed that in three and four days of unrest, Karachi alone incurred damages of between Rs80 and Rs90 billion.
