Since January 1st, London residents Aziz Ziriat, 36, and Samuel Harris, 35, have not been contacted. When the two did not check into their flight home on January 6, the alarm was sounded.
Rescue personnel said on Wednesday that they had discovered a body that was “unfortunately lifeless, buried under the snow” and that it was thought to be Mr. Harris’s.
Heavy snowfall in previous days has hindered rescue efforts.
“Today the search for the second mountaineer missing from the Adamello group was temporarily suspended due to bad weather, with rain in the valley bottom and snowfall in the mountains,” Italian rescue services said in a statement on Thursday.
Rescue crews have worked to remove snow from the route that leads to the summit of Val di Borzago.
