Born in the UK but nurtured primarily in Nigeria, the leader of the Conservative Party has frequently talked about growing up in a corrupt nation filled with fear and insecurity.
Kashim Shettima, the vice president of Nigeria, said on Monday that Badenoch might “remove the Kemi from her name” if she didn’t feel proud of her “nation of origin.”
Badenoch’s spokesperson responded that Shettima “stands by what she says” and “is not PR for Nigeria” when asked about her remarks.
