On November 15, Musavir Kakar was kidnapped while he was making his way home from school in the Patel Bagh neighborhood of Quetta. His family has promised to keep protesting until he returns safely.
Political parties and trade groups are supporting the strike, which started on November 19.
Exams for intermediate and government schools have been postponed, and the Balochistan Education Department declared that all educational institutions have been closed as a result of the strike.
The cities are at a halt due to the strike. Major markets are closed, as are all public and private schools.
